Great job on your own win! So how exactly does it sense to succeed Picture of the season by public judging?

Thanks! It seems remarkable to succeed the Image of the Year competitors. This current year we experienced a great variety of high quality photographs, so obviously I feel completely honoured that more and more people voted for my photo. Thank you every person for that help.

If it had been your choice to submit a photo for the contest, would you have chosen this one?

If I had had the choice, because it is a special and unique moment that you cannot reproduce that easily, i think I would have chosen it. It displays the fun you have when you go riding with friends and you think that you want to join the gang once you look at the snapshot.

Just how much preparation and planning went into this impression?

I love to do action class photographs and in such a case the mixture of the entertaining the riders got and the new hindrance motivated me. As soon as I saw the shark fin, I was quite clear about the perspective. The theory would be to get one unsharp rider inside the foreground and also to place the concentrate on the motion on the shark fin. I described the concept with the riders and we coordinated the timing.

How do you find the location and riders?

The Scott team was in Chatel because of the product launch and on the day of the shooting Nico Vink had just finished the shark fin for the Chatel Bike Festival well. So the boys were eager to try the new obstacle and were stoked about the perfect smoothness, speed and shape of Nico‘s work.

The large characteristic concerning this picture is the timing from the first rider framed through the left arm from the previous rider, how would you time that it? How many tries made it happen get to obtain it right?

Sometimes it takes hundreds of tries to get the best shot along with the riders desire to kill you. And quite often you want merely one attempt. In cases like this, we nailed it together with the initial photo.

Checking out several of the other shots in your web site, timing seems to be a persistent theme to suit your needs (the photo with the frog and also the dust/drinking water portraits), can you say this can be a identifying element of your photo fashion?

For me photography is about getting unique moments. You freeze moments that are hardly visibly for the human eye because of the speed of the movements, especially in action sports photography. So yes, timing plays a huge role in my work. I want to catch the main one minute that delivers the whole activity. Light and atmosphere are the two other features that outline a good take pictures of for me personally. I merely adore having fun with these components. one2more
